These two
figures are painted in a manner consistent with the other figure windows
in the church. The formal attitude they take is very traditional, but
the robes are colored with a variety of blues and purples that keep
the figures from being too static. Mary Magdalene is shown holding an
egg; according to Medieval legend, she presented it to the Emperor as
proof of Christ’s resurrection. It turned red when he failed to
appreciate the point, the precursor of the colored Easter Egg.
